Helping athletes find freedom in food and exercise

Recovery is possible. I want to help guide you towards a more meaningful life, one in which your eating disorder is no longer in charge. My mission is to help clients discover their healthy selves and strengthen that aspect of themselves. I believe that the healthy self will heal the eating disorder self. Through my own struggle and recovery from an eating disorder, I approach coaching with empathy and hope. I can promise that it won't be easy, but it will be worth it. I will be with you every step of the way in your journey to becoming recovered.

MY PHILOSOPHY

Why work with a recovery coach?

As a recovery coach, I focus on the here and now. Unlike therapists, I am not delving into the underlying causes of the disease or deep-rooted reasons as to why my clients developed an eating disorder. Rather, I am focusing on helping the client eat their food, resist urges, reach out to others, live a more meaningful life and work towards being recovered. I am available, within set boundaries, via text or cell phone throughout the day and evening for clients to reach out when they have urges to use behaviors. I am a member of their recovery team and the more communication with their other team members, the better. Together as a team I believe we can best help our client live a life fully recovered and full of meaning. I am in no way in competition with my client’s therapists and I will report back to their therapists or refer them to discuss certain things with their therapists that are outside of my scope of dealing with the here and now.

DOCTOR VISITS AND LABS

Assistance and accompaniment to appointments

Doctor visits can be extremely triggering to clients with eating disorders, especially the weight checks. I am available to assist clients throughout the entire visit, serving as an advocate for their needs and modeling what it looks like to advocate until they are ready to do it themselves. I will ensure that weigh ins are blind and remind the clinician of the clients' sensitive needs.

WEEKLY SPECIAL TOPICS GROUPS

Create new connections and support systems

These groups are a lot of fun, bringing clients and support people together to discuss special topics in a relaxed setting, often over music or viewing videos. I offer this service free to all my clients as an additional measure of accountability and support during the week.

SHOPPING SUPPORT

Structured support with grocery and clothing shopping.

Grocery shopping can be extremely overwhelming for clients with eating disorders. I am available to go shopping with clients to support them in following their meal plan and staying calm, covering labels and helping them set up their kitchen most effectively to help them be successful with meal completions. I also offer services to help clients go clothing shopping as this can be very triggering. I help with every step of the process, from selecting clothes to try on, covering labels, giving advice and cutting tags post purchase.

About Me

Caitlin Jacobsen is the founder of Endurecovery. She holds a M.S. in Integrative Physiological Sciences from UCLA, a B.A. in Neuroscience from Claremont McKenna College and is a certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach through the Carolyn Costin Institute.

Before starting Endurecovery, Caitlin was a Staff Research Associate in the Stimulant-Abuse and Addiction Lab at UCLA and the UCLA Tennenbaum Center for the Biology of Creativity. She completed her thesis on neural substrates involved in impulse control and addiction. Most recently, she worked at the Eating Disorder Center of Portland (a Monte Nido owned company).

Endurecovery grew out of the need for focused and individualized support for the athlete with an eating disorder. Caitlin’s personal recovery journey and professional experience highlighted the gap in treatment of competitive endurance athletes who suffer from eating disorders.

Caitlin is also a mother to two very strong, athletic daughters and one very artistic son. She lives in Issaquah, Washington with her children and husband, Alan, who is a PhD level scientist and inventor at Amazon. She still runs competitively with Rose City Track Club, preferring trails over roads and real food over gels.
